More About 1/2" Non-Barrier PEX

1/2" PEX is the most popular size tubing used for residential drinking water plumbing applications due its flexibility and good flow rates with low pressure drop. It can be used to run hot and cold water lines to plumbing fixtures such as showers, faucets, dishwashers, lavatories and many others. It is also certified to PEX 5006 for continuous hot water recirculation (up to 140F) and is suitable for use with hot chlorinated water.

1/2" non-barrier PEX is often used in combination with PEX plumbing manifolds, such as the ones manufactured by Sioux Chief and is suitable for “home-run” systems.

Q: Do I have to use red tubing for hot and blue for cold water lines?
A: Tubing is color coded to help you identify hot and cold water lines. Besides the color, there is no difference between red and blue colored PEX.

Q: I have some leftover PEX fittings purchased from a local home improvement store. Can I use them with this tubing?
A: Nearly all home improvement stores and majority of plumbing supplies usually sell either crimp style PEX fittings (ASTM F1807) or push-fit fittings (such as SharkBite brand). Both are compatible with Everhot plumbing PEX as well as Viega and Sioux Chief. You can look up fitting compatibility here.

Q: We plan on doing a “Home Run” plumbing system. Is 1/2" PEX tubing the right size for this application?
A: Yes, 1/2" PEX tubing is the most popular size used for Home Run systems (such as Viega Manabloc). It delivers adequate flow to the fixture even in larger size homes. 3/4" or 1" size PEX can be installed on the manifolds’ inlets for hot and cold water supply.
