Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are Viega PEX Press fittings compatible with other brands of tubing?
A: PEX press connection method is compatible with all types of PEX tubing (A, B, C), as long as the fittings are installed using Viega PEX press tools. However, Viega will only warrant the connections when their brand tubing is used in conjunction with the fittings.

Q: Why these fittings have different color plastic sleeves at the base?
A: The color of the sleeve makes it easy to identify the fitting size and select a proper size tool since the latter also have colored handles. The fitting and tool colors are Green for 3/8", Yellow for 1/2", Blue for 3/4" and Orange for 1".

Q: Why does the sleeve has a small hole in it?
A: To visually confirm that the pipe was fully inserted into the fitting.

Q: Are Viega PEX press fittings reusable?
A: No.

Q: Why are these fittings made with a bronze while others on the market are brass?
A: Brass has a long history of dezincification issues and since bronze contains no zinc, it is not subject to this problem. With the discovery of first DZR (DeZincification Resistant) brass alloys, this problem was minimized, and when C69300 alloy (also known as "ECO brass") was introduced, the problem was eliminated. Only a handful of companies use ECO brass for their PEX fittings, such as Everhot and Uponor. Many others still use the cheaper, outdated C46500 brass alloy which qualifies as DZR, but does not provide 100% DZR resistance and is inferior to ECO brass in performance.

Q: What’s the difference between bronze and poly PEX press fittings?
A: Other than material, there’s no significant difference. Since plastic cannot be soldered, there are no transition adapters from PEX press to copper pipe/fittings. Both materials are lead-free. PolyAlloy is newer to the market and cannot boast the same performance record as bronze.

Q: Can PEX press fittings be used with FostaPEX?
A: Yes. Keep in mind that a FostaPEX prep tool is required to make a proper connection.
