Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Which Vent Category does Z-Vent cover?
A: Z-Vent is designed specifically for Category III and IV vented appliances.
Z-Vent is code-specified for all Category III water heaters, boilers, unit heaters & furnaces which are power-vented (fan-assisted flue exhaust) and are non-condensing (standard efficiency type). These include many gas tankless water heaters, power vent storage type water heaters and power vent cast iron boilers.
Z-Vent is also a good choice for Category IV appliances, which are power-vented and are high-efficiency (produce condensate during normal operation), however, due to high cost, in Cat. IV venting applications, poly vent pipe (such as Innoflue by Centrotherm) is often used instead due to a significantly lower cost.
Category I & II venting - while technically compatible with these appliances, Z-Vent is rarely used due to high costs, as much lower priced alternatives are available.
Q: What is the maximum allowed operating temperature for Z-Vent?
A: It is 480°F (249°C)
Q: What size nut driver is needed for the hex nut on Z-Vent gear clamp?
